Most Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. spas, alone or independent, would require a 100 sq. ft. cartridge filter and a dual speed 1½ hp full rated pump. This would adequately filter all models and have the power to make the jets operate properly. The pump could be upsized and additional air controls could be added for more action. Caution should be taken when upsizing the pump that the filter and heater can handle the flow rate of the pump, otherwise the filter may require a by-pass and the heater could cycle inconsistently.
With a pool/spa combination, the equipment that is normally used on the Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. pool can be used or shared in common with the Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. spa without upsizing the pump and filter for the added volume of water. The next choice then becomes upsize one pump for the jet action or have a two-pump system.
In a two pump system, a smaller pump operates filter/heat and spa spill ledge or water feature cycles and another larger pump for the jet or therapeutic operation. Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. recommends a two-pump system on all spa models used as a pool/spa combination. Add an additional 1 hp or 1½ hp full rated pump to the normal equipment used for the comparable Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. pool only equipment application. If a single pump application is used, be sure to upsize the pump to the next size or two, taking caution of the flow rate for the filter and either upgrade the filter or by-pass some water, if necessary.
