Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. Spas will attach a custom spill ledge within reason to any spa purchased in combination with a Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. pool.  The location must be noted on the spa drawing of the Spa Order Form.  Thought must go into the spa placement in relation the decks, spa entry steps, seats, benches, and actual spill location in relation to pool activity.

Spill ledges act as a trough for water to flow into the pool.  This could be a source for trouble or complaints.  Attention should be paid to the height of the ledge in relation to swimmers and activity.  The distance the water must fall or drop from the ledge to the pool water surface is important; the longer the fall, the louder the water sounds.  Wind could affect this and if preventive measures aren't taken in the construction process to seal the area tight from water and splash, it could be a source for leaks and future problems under and behind the spa and pool.  Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. recommends several effective sump systems for the prevention of water around the pool.  Please refer to our Pool Installation Manual for drawings and instructions.

Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc. spas spill ledges are fully gel coated and do not need any tile to waterproof.  Tile of slate can be added by the builder but not necessary.  If tile is indicated on the spa order form spill ledge section, we will not buff the gel coat finish to a high gloss finish.  Any special requests in regards to accommodating construction techniques will be considered and timely "special quote", if it is above and beyond the standard spill ledge provided.   One thing to consider is that as water flows off the edge, it takes on the contour of the edge (uneven or jagged edge, then uneven or jagged flow).  Therefore, the use of corner tile or a forged metal spill ledge edging is an attractive and relatively inexpensive way to solve this problem.
